Proctor and Gamble expand record deal with HP The $3bn deal announced by the two companies last year is to be expanded, the industry giants announced this week. As a result of the new agreement, P&G will transfer its corporate-wide transactional accounts payable operations to HP Services in order to improve productivity and make the company more adaptive. The two companies expect to sign the expansion deal in April. US Federal Reserve promotes offshoring Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve, the American version of the Bank of England, has said that offshore outsourcing is vital to the future of the US economy in a speech this week. Greenspan a highly respected economist made the remarks during a speech at the Boston College's Finance Conference. He went on to attack US politicians who are trying to stop companies moving business units abroad, saying the move would destroy American jobs rather than protect them. Goodness gracious me... they can't take it anymore While US politicians thunder and fume over offshoring and business executives eye its potential savings salivating wallets, the novelty of call centre work is beginning to wear off for India's youth. Many are beginning to report psychological problems and in a recent survey 35% admitted that they were planning to leave the industry. The main reason for this planned exodus is the highly unsociable hours that the Indian call centre operatives work in order to meet the needs of their international clients, particularly in the USA. A typical shift in Dehli serving a US daytime audience runs from 5pm to 3am Indian time, placing social and physical strains on the workers involved. |
