Phase one of the PFI contracts consists of a five year period that will see approximately 63,000 new street lights installed for The City of Sunderland Council, South Tyneside Borough Council and Derby City Council. The contracts are handled by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services. Phase two involves ongoing maintenance of more than 115,000 street lights for a period of 20 years. The company has implemented the Mayrise Street Lighting system to improve its operational effectiveness and provide scope for further PFI contracts in the future. It has also been integrated with Balfour Beatty’s own system that it previously developed to provide web-based development analysis and reporting facilities. The company’s engineers are equipped with PDAs, with the new system providing street mapping and process maintenance and installation information. The contracts involve varying SLA response times for fault fixing and replacement of units, which the new system is also designed to handle. ‘Mayrise Systems provides what has become an invaluable tool for managing our contracts and the software is helping us improve the management of over 100,000 street light assets,’ said Paul Stoddart Systems, Planning and Asset Manager. ‘The system provides centralised asset information and allows us to accurately track and report on the performance of PFI projects.’ The company has also included TomTom satellite navigation to help its engineers locate and identify assets in the field. It also uses the Mayrise MapNow mapping software for geographical analysis of data and map displays.
