Responding to growing concerns about the risk of data theft and software piracy, Infomill has added a data compression and encryption procedure to its leading product, PartsArena. This is likely to prove particularly attractive to users in the high tech and military where they will want to keep technical information only in the hands of qualified and authorised personnel. The security system works by locking the data held on an SD card so that it can only be run on the machine it was originally installed on. This is carried out by the generation and registration of a 25 character code. There is also the option for system administrators to "time-bomb" the data so that it will stop working after a set period. This is useful to prevent data loss after a theft of the hardware itself. The additions are also designed to tackle software piracy – particularly of the PartsArena solution. ‘Technical data is an extremely valuable item these days,’ said Infomill's software director Adrian King. 'Our customers need to know that their information is secure – they demand the highest levels of security and that is why we continue to provide it.'
