American software giant Cisco Systems is to provide Toronto airport's new terminal 1 with an intelligent system aimed at smoothing passenger transit. According to Cisco, the system will create a 'resilient' communications structure that will cater for airport security, and 'seamlessly' connect the airlines, passengers and other businesses that use the airport's facilities. Airport executives are under heavy pressure to provide secure transportation while reducing costs, according to James Burke, VP, Information Technology and Telecommunications at the Greater Toronto Airport Authority. 'We view the network as the foundation of our business and operations strategy to create a secure common-communications infrastructure, enable new applications, and offer a service-oriented environment for the airport,' he added. |
